1. Factors that Influence Towing Rates
Towing rates aren’t just based on distance. Several other factors affect your cost, including:
- Location: Our flat fees cover 10km, and we charge from hook up to your drop off point. If your destination exceeds the cap, you may be charged a per-km rate in addition to the flat fee.
- Vehicle or Asset Type: Towing a small car is different from towing an SUV, a pickup truck, or a commercial vehicle. Larger vehicles or assets require more powerful equipment or different towing methods, which can impact the price.
- Time of Day: If you need a tow between the hours of 10:00 pm – 7:00 am or during a holiday, a surcharge is typically applied.
- Roadside Conditions: If your vehicle is stuck in a ditch or buried in mud, special tools and extra time will be required to winch it out – this is known as recovery winching services, and it adds to the overall cost.
2. Is there a Base or Hookup Fee?
A base fee is charged for hooking up your vehicle or transporting your asset. This fee is separate from mileage or additional services, which will apply depending on your situation or if it is extended beyond the 10km zone.
3. How can you estimate your towing rate?
- Measure the distance ahead of time: Use a map app to calculate the exact number of miles between your current location and your desired drop-off point and advise the dispatcher.
- Know your vehicle’s details: Be prepared to tell the dispatcher your vehicle’s make and model, and whether it is a front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive. Some vehicles require special towing methods, which can affect the rate.
- Take notice of your situation: If your car is in a ditch or otherwise hard to access, mention that during your call. Mentioning this information helps us determine if recovery services or special equipment are needed.
- In the case of an accident, we will need to know the following: are the keys available, where on the vehicle is damaged, are any wheels missing or damaged, is the car able to roll, can the steering wheel turn, can the vehicle go into neutral, and is anybody hurt. Take photos (if possible) and send them to the dispatcher.
4. Can you handle pick-up trucks, sports cars, SUVs?
